"On the morning of February 24, 2022, we all woke up to a new reality. Rockets were falling on Kyiv, and Russian artillery was already within shooting range of the suburbs. I wrapped up all my important affairs and headed to the military recruitment points. At first, I was photographing everything around me, but at some point, it became clear that this was not a project about civilians who became soldiers. This is a story about the soul’s journey toward healing. Through an honest encounter with the most terrifying and vile manifestations of human nature against the backdrop of a war for survival with an ancient and formidable enemy. It is a journey where my inner Vergil guides me through the circles of hell, and I must face all these vices, honestly search for them within myself, and accept their existence. Helplessness, irresponsibility, betrayal, greed despite everything, hypocrisy, and lies—we all walked this path, and those who had enough inner strength became stronger and more genuine. My story is about myself through documenting the lives of my comrades. My story is about hope that leads through the darkest times. I thought I had seen, drawn conclusions, and accepted everything by the fall of 2022. But it turned out to be a transition to a new cycle. Since then, there have been two more such cycles. The project continues."
