Not sure if it happened
Lucía del Mar

"I wanted to take photos and create a fiction in the forest, but reality revealed and the story told itself. I don’t remember how we got there or how we left, just my brother saying, “It’s late, we have to go.” And the car, almost out of battery, that started just in time to leave behind the men who were approaching from behind (according to what we saw in the rearview mirror). They were walking slowly but steadily, taking advantage of the fading light of the sunset (that time of day when it feels like you’re blind). I still remember the silence; we acted like nothing was happening while we could hear our hearts beating fast. That afternoon, I wanted to take photos and create a fiction in the forest, but reality revealed and the story told itself. Two years later, I dare to look at the photo archive, and I still don’t know if it really happened or if I dreamed I was awake. I only remember trying to take pictures while the flashes of light blinded me. “Not sure if it happened” reflects on science fiction built on reality, or on the number of incredible stories and events that happen every day. “It felt like a horror movie,” we often say. The use of photography to tell stories, or at least, to document them."

" My name is Lucía del Mar, I'm from Uruguay and I live in Berlin. I recently finished my formation as a Cultural Manager in one of my favorite publishing houses, La Fábrica in Madrid. I am an economist and studied photography, both degrees at the University of the Republic in Montevideo. This year I published my first photobook (or book of poetry, or a diary) called "Manual para desarmar" by Vértigo editora (Buenos Aires). My photographic works have been published in magazines and collective exhibitions. Selected as FRESH EYE TALENT 2024 by GUP MAGAZINE. I developed my professional activity in the field of social sciences and in the cultural field, in the area of Creative Economy of the National Direction of Culture. I accumulate experiences in random jobs: a bit of waitress and cook; as well as photographer and writer. In all of them I use the tools I have acquired in my multiple lives. You can always make an Excel"
